Yearly Tarot Spread: A Journey Through Time

December marks the moment when nature takes its rest and invites us to do the same. It’s a time for reflection, where we look back on what has passed and gently begin to dream of what is yet to come. What in your life deserves a festive celebration? And what resolution will define your upcoming year?
A yearly tarot spread offers a unique way to gain insight into the energies that the coming year holds for you. This spread can be done at any time of the year, although many find it especially meaningful to perform around a birthday or the start of a new year. It helps you look ahead and provides guidance as you embrace the unknown.
The Spread and Its Meaning
In a yearly spread, 13 cards are drawn, each representing a month. The first 12 cards symbolize each month from the moment of the reading. For example, if you do the reading on May 18th, card 1 will cover the period from May 18th to June 17th, card 2 from June 18th to July 17th, and so on. The 13th card offers a summary insight: it shows the essence of your year, the theme that will keep recurring and resonate the most with your journey during this period.
The cards are placed in a circle, with the first card being laid on the left (where 9 o’clock would be on a clock). Then, you lay the cards counterclockwise, completing the circle of the year. The 13th card is placed in the center, symbolizing the heart of the spread. This representation of infinity and cyclic movement emphasizes that everything you encounter this year is part of a larger whole.

A Moment of Reflection
Each card is turned over and interpreted one by one before revealing the next. This allows you to absorb the message of each month without feeling rushed. It gives you space to reflect on how the energies of each month are interconnected.
Pause and Listen
What awaits you this year? Take the time to reflect, pause, and open yourself to the wisdom that tarot can bring. This spread invites you to slow down, observe, and embrace the transformative lessons ahead. What will you welcome this year? What will you let go of? Take a moment to embrace the process because small changes can often have a profound impact.
