Embarking on the Tarot Journey
What Are Tarot Cards
In my previous blog, I shared my quest for self-discovery. A significant milestone in this journey was purchasing a tarot deck at a spiritual fair six years ago. Now, it’s time to delve deeper into the mystical realm of tarot.
Choosing the Rider Waite Tarot Deck
The deck that caught my attention was the Rider Waite tarot. The vendor recommended it for its accessibility, clear imagery, and profound symbolism. Eager to unravel the mysteries behind the card images, I bought the book ‘Tarot for Dummies’. However, the explanations were not as comprehensive as I’d hoped, leaving me with more questions than answers. This led me to ponder, “What exactly is tarot?”.
The Art of Interpreting Tarot Images
Tarot, as I learned from my book, is a series of images that can be interpreted in myriad ways. While I initially struggled with the ambiguity of the images, I came to understand that the interpretation of tarot cards is subjective, influenced by one’s personal experiences and viewpoints.
Tarot: The Gateway to Inner Wisdom
My Rider Waite deck, like most tarot decks, comprises 78 cards. These are divided into 22 Major Arcana cards, representing life’s spiritual lessons, and 56 Minor Arcana cards, depicting the trials and tribulations of everyday life. As Brigit Esselmont, founder of Biddy Tarot, beautifully articulates, tarot is the storybook of our lives, the mirror to our souls, and the key to inner wisdom. Therefore, tarot cards can serve as a bridge to our subconscious, helping us acknowledge and embrace our inner truths.
The Learning Curve of Tarot
I am hopeful that tarot cards can provide the insights I seek. I recognize that I am at the beginning of my spiritual journey and have a lot to learn. My eagerness to become a proficient tarot reader overnight is a common pitfall I encounter. However, my curiosity about tarot keeps me moving forward. The question that arises now is, “How can I effectively read tarot cards?” This is a topic I plan to explore in my next blog post.
