How to read tarot cards

Decoding tarot for beginners

In a previous post, I described my first encounter with the Rider-Waite tarot deck. This marked the beginning of my journey into tarot and the question, “What is tarot?” Now, I’m taking a step further to explore how to read tarot cards in a way that feels natural and intuitive.

Understanding tarot in a new way

While researching, I discovered the Biddy Tarot website, which opened up a whole new perspective. Its founder, Brigit, shared that memorizing the meanings of the cards isn’t necessary. This was a relief after feeling overwhelmed by traditional methods. Instead, she encouraged an approach focused on intuition and personal interpretation.

Learning from Biddy Tarot’s webinar

To dive deeper, I joined a free webinar called How To Quickly Read Any Tarot Card Intuitively Without Memorising All 78 Cards. Brigit’s key message was simple yet empowering—set the guidebook aside and trust yourself. She encouraged me to look at the cards and describe what I saw. For example, if I wanted insight into my spiritual growth, I could draw a card and focus on its imagery to uncover its message.

Interpreting the strength card

During one exercise, I drew the Strength card. It depicted a woman gently taming a lion, surrounded by nature, with an infinity symbol above her head. The image conveyed calmness and courage. To me, the card’s message was clear—I am stronger than I believe, and I am on the right path. Initially, I felt hesitant, worrying about being wrong. But tarot is not about right or wrong. It’s about connecting with your inner voice.

Numerology and taking action

Brigit also introduced the idea of numerology. The Strength card, associated with the number eight, represents action and movement. This felt aligned with my readiness to take steps toward spiritual growth.

The path forward

Brigit emphasized that tarot is a practice of exploration and growth. Each card offers layers of meaning, and understanding them takes time and practice. During the webinar, she introduced her course Master the Tarot Card Meanings. It felt like a natural next step in my journey, one that the Strength card had already hinted at.
