Kintsugi Philosophy
Kintsugi is a Japanese art form where broken pottery is lovingly restored with gold. The philosophy behind it is to highlight the fractures instead of hiding them. You can also apply Kintsugi to your life. It shows that emotional scars can give your existence a golden glow.
Though some people seem to sail through life without a hitch, most of us experience emotional fractures and wounds. In the West, we often try to hide the healing process, but in Japan, people metaphorically cover their wounds with gold. The idea of emphasizing breaks and cracks comes from Kintsugi.
The word Kintsugi comes from the Japanese 'kin' (gold) and 'tsugi' (join), literally meaning 'golden joinery.' Kintsugi is a beautiful metaphor for your healing process. Just as Kintsugi elevates broken objects by highlighting their scars, you can learn to accept your imperfections as part of who you are. Your painful past makes you unique. Wear it with pride.
Emotional Fragments
Kintsugi is not a quick fix. Repairing emotional fractures with gold requires patience. View your wound as a starting point for development, a process where you slowly turn it into gold. This process consists of six phases, detailed in the book "Kintsugi, the Beauty of Emotional Scars" by Céline Santini. The book offers tips and exercises to get started immediately.
