Discover the Myths and Legends of Southeast Asia
*The Tales of Eleven* is an illustrated anthology that invites you to explore the rich tapestry of Southeast Asian mythology and folklore. This beautifully crafted book presents four enchanting tales from each of the eleven unique countries, showcasing the diversity and beauty of their oral traditions. Whether you’re a fan of mythology or simply love a good story, this book offers a rare opportunity to delve into the vibrant cultures of Southeast Asia.
A Curated Collection of Hidden Stories
Collecting these stories was a challenging task, as many of them have been passed down through oral tradition and have been impacted by the effects of colonization. In some regions, local tales, once integral to community life, have been systematically erased and nearly forgotten. With great care and dedication, Ambi Sun and Sha Roose have unearthed and preserved these stories, focusing on lesser-known myths that feature diverse protagonists, intriguing outcomes, and meaningful analogies. The result is a collection that not only entertains but also educates and inspires.
Authenticity and Cultural Significance
In retelling these tales, close attention was paid to accurately represent the creatures and elements mentioned, ensuring they are native to the respective regions or hold significant cultural relevance. The authors aim to honor the original spirit of these stories, providing readers with an authentic experience that reflects the true essence of Southeast Asia’s mythological heritage.
